Jet Airways Founder Naresh Goyal Mourns Wife’s Cancer Battle Loss

Anita Goyal, the wife of Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, tragically passed away on Thursday morning after bravely battling the final stages of cancer. Survived by her husband and their two children, Namrata and Nivaan Goyal, Anita’s health had been steadily declining over the past few months despite extensive medical treatment. Reports indicate that she had been fighting third-stage cancer.

The news of Anita’s untimely demise comes shortly after the Bombay High Court granted the couple a two-month-long interim bail in a money laundering case on medical grounds. Naresh Goyal, aged 75, had sought interim bail citing his own health concerns as well, as he too is grappling with cancer.

During the court proceedings, Goyal’s lawyer, senior advocate Harish Salve, appealed on humanitarian grounds, highlighting the immense physical and emotional challenges faced by Goyal, particularly in light of his wife’s deteriorating health. It was mentioned that Goyal had opted for chemotherapy over more aggressive treatments so he could remain by his wife’s side.

Anita Goyal, who served as the executive vice president, played an integral role in the operations of Jet Airways. Her passing occurred around 3 a.m., with Naresh Goyal present at their Mumbai residence.

Currently in judicial custody at the Arthur Road Central Jail (ARCJ) since September 1, 2023, Naresh Goyal had sought bail on the grounds of refuting allegations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED had accused him of misappropriating loan amounts for personal gain, specifically in connection with a Canara Bank loan totaling ₹538.62 crore extended to the Jet Airways group.
