Hollywood awards season kicked off in style as One Battle After Another and Hamnet emerged as the biggest winners at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony held in Beverly Hills on Sunday night.
The dark comedy One Battle After Another secured the award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Hamnet, a powerful drama inspired by the life of William Shakespeare, claimed Best Motion Picture – Drama. The wins placed both films firmly in the spotlight at the start of the 2026 awards race.
Timothée Chalamet Scores Major Acting Win
Actor Timothée Chalamet delivered one of the night’s most talked-about moments after winning in a highly competitive acting category. He triumphed over established stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney.
Accepting the award, Chalamet thanked his fellow nominees and reflected on past disappointments at the Globes, saying earlier losses made this victory especially meaningful.
Podcasts and Music Take Center Stage
In a newer category, Good Hang with Amy Poehler won Best Podcast, with Amy Poehler describing the show as an effort to spread joy and kindness through humor.
Meanwhile, Golden, a standout song from the Netflix hit K-Pop Demon Hunters, earned Best Original Song. Korean-American singer Ejae accepted the award with an empowering message about embracing one’s moment to shine. The film streams on Netflix.
Host Nikki Glaser Adds Humor to the Night
Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the ceremony, delivering sharp but playful jokes about Hollywood’s elite. Her monologue included light-hearted teasing of DiCaprio and a tongue-in-cheek reminder of the Globes’ place in global pop culture.
Early Momentum Toward the Oscars
The Golden Globes are among the first major honors awarded ahead of the Academy Awards, scheduled for March. While Globes voters do not overlap with Oscar voters, a win often boosts visibility and momentum during awards season.
This year’s recipients were selected by more than 300 international entertainment journalists, a smaller voting body compared to the nearly 9,000 members who decide the Oscars.
