Elon Musk Confirms Starlink Launch in Bhutan: Pricing and Features Revealed

SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, has officially launched its Starlink satellite internet service in Bhutan. While Musk confirmed this development via X earlier this week, the service was actually rolled out in December 2024. Starlink has rapidly expanded its global reach, and its introduction in Bhutan is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity in the region by providing access to high-speed satellite-based internet.

Bhutan’s government has approved the service, making it possible for residents to access high-speed internet via Starlink’s satellite network. Starlink works by transmitting internet signals from satellites to ground-based terminals, which then relay the network to users. However, users in Bhutan won’t be able to access satellite internet directly on their mobile phones, unlike some iPhone users in certain regions.

Starlink Plans and Pricing in Bhutan

  • Residential Lite Plan: Priced at Nu 3,000 (approximately ₹3,001 per month), offering internet speeds ranging from 23 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
  • Standard Residential Plan: Priced at Nu 4,200 (approximately ₹4,201 per month), providing speeds between 25 Mbps and 110 Mbps with unlimited data usage.

These Starlink prices are higher than what local telecom providers in Bhutan charge, which is common with satellite internet services. However, the service promises to deliver high-speed internet even in remote and underserved areas.

For more information about Starlink’s services in Bhutan, users are encouraged to visit the official information portals or SpaceX’s Starlink website.
