Nicolas Hieronimus, born on January 3, 1964, in Paris, France, is a prominent businessman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the L’Oréal Group, a position he has held since May 1, 2021. As the sixth CEO in the company’s storied history, he succeeded Jean-Paul Agon, who continues to serve as chairman.

Early Life and Education

Growing up in a dynamic environment—his father was a television producer and his mother an aerospace engineer—Hieronimus developed a strong foundation for creativity and innovation. He attended ESSEC Business School, graduating in 1985 with a degree in marketing, which laid the groundwork for his successful career in the beauty industry.

Career at L’Oréal
Hieronimus joined L’Oréal in 1987 as a product manager for the Garnier brand, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey within the company. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming marketing director at Garnier Laboratories in the 1990s, where he spearheaded the creation and launch of the Fructis haircare and Movida hair color lines.

His leadership skills shone through when he managed the Garnier and Maybelline businesses in the UK, introducing both brands to the British market. He later created the International Brand Management for L’Oréal Paris, launching key products such as the Dermo-Expertise skincare line and the Men Expert range.

In 2005, Hieronimus took on the role of head of L’Oréal Mexico, before moving on to become the general manager of the Professional Products Division in 2008, where he launched the groundbreaking Inoa hair color line.

By 2011, he was named President of L’Oréal Luxe, modernizing major brands and enhancing the consumer experience. His strategic vision led to successful acquisitions, including Urban Decay, IT Cosmetics, and Atelier Cologne, as well as extending the Valentino and Armani licenses.

In May 2021, Hieronimus became CEO of L’Oréal, where he emphasized a dual focus on economic and corporate performance. Under his leadership, L’Oréal demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth, outpacing the market with significant advancements across all divisions.

Achievements and Vision

His leadership style is characterized by a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, aiming to create beauty that not only resonates emotionally but also drives positive change in the world.

In his vision for the future, Hieronimus emphasizes the importance of adapting to a rapidly changing beauty landscape, leveraging technology and innovation to meet evolving consumer expectations. He believes that L’Oréal is uniquely positioned to excel in a multipolar and fragmented market, evolving its philosophy from “beauty for all” to “beauty for each.”

Personal Life
Outside of his professional endeavors, Hieronimus is known for his dedication to family and community. He remains passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion within the beauty industry, understanding the profound impact of beauty on self-confidence and individual expression.
