Early Life and Education
Lorraine de Gournay, born Lorraine Bompard on September 1, 1976, in Sèvres, France, is the eldest daughter of Éric Bompard, the founder of the renowned luxury knitwear brand that bears his name. Growing up in a family deeply embedded in the world of fashion and retail, Lorraine was inspired by her father’s entrepreneurial spirit. She pursued her education rigorously, earning a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from the University of Paris-Dauphine. She further enhanced her academic credentials with a DEA from Sciences Po Paris and an MBA from HEC Paris, laying a strong foundation for her future in business.
Early Career
Lorraine began her professional journey at Goldman Sachs, where she spent three years in equity research. This experience in financial analysis equipped her with valuable insights into the economic landscape, which would later inform her business decisions in the retail sector. During this time, she met her husband, Geoffroy de Gournay, who also works in the financial industry.
Return to Family Business
In 2003, at just 26 years old, Lorraine made the pivotal decision to join the family business, Éric Bompard. Reflecting on this choice, she noted, “I felt that it was the right time to take a place alongside my father.” She quickly set to work modernizing the company, beginning with the creation of an online sales platform to expand its reach in the digital marketplace.
Within two years, Lorraine was appointed Director of Development, a position created specifically for her. She spearheaded significant projects, including the opening of a flagship boutique on the prestigious Avenue des Champs-Élysées in 2007. This store became a symbol of the brand’s luxury identity, showcasing an innovative design featuring a “suspended library” that displayed 20,000 products across two expansive floors.
Leadership and Succession
In 2009, Lorraine succeeded her father as CEO of Éric Bompard, while he retained the title of Chairman. Under her leadership, the company continued to thrive, successfully maintaining its family-oriented values while expanding its market presence. Lorraine’s vision focused on balancing tradition with modernity, ensuring a smooth transition of leadership between the generations.
After 15 successful years at the helm, Lorraine and Éric Bompard sold the company in March 2018 to entrepreneur Xavier Marie. At the time of the sale, the brand had achieved a remarkable turnover of around 100 million euros, solidifying its status as a key player in the luxury knitwear market.
Post-Leadership Ventures
Following the sale, Lorraine de Gournay took on a new role as a board member of Société Éric Bompard, where she continues to influence the brand’s strategic direction. Additionally, she has turned her focus to the entrepreneurial sector, actively supporting innovative startups in the retail and luxury industries. She founded her own consultancy firm that advises and invests in startups and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), helping to nurture the next generation of retail leaders.

Lorraine is married to Geoffroy de Gournay, and together they navigate their professional and personal lives with a shared commitment to innovation and excellence.
