The world’s first trillionaire may come from the tech industry, and some of the world’s wealthiest individuals are on track to reach this monumental financial milestone. With tech giants leading the wealth rankings, who will be the first to claim the trillion-dollar title?
Mark Zuckerberg Joins the $200 Billion Club
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is now part of an exclusive group of billionaires whose wealth exceeds $200 billion (€182.57 billion). Zuckerberg, who holds a significant stake in Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, is a key figure in the competition for the first trillionaire. His growing fortune places him among the top three wealthiest tech leaders, alongside Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Tesla’s Elon Musk.
Zuckerberg’s wealth is driven largely by his ownership of Meta, which remains one of the most influential companies in the world of social media. As Meta continues to expand and dominate, Zuckerberg’s financial ascent shows no signs of slowing down.
Tech Industry’s Dominance in Wealth Rankings
According to Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index, the top three richest people in the world are all tech moguls. Eight out of the top 10 wealthiest individuals hail from the tech industry, with names like Larry Ellison of Oracle, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, and Alphabet co-founder Larry Page rounding out the list.
The tech industry has also been a key driver of wealth creation, with six of the seven companies that have surpassed a $1 trillion (€918 billion) market valuation coming from this sector. As of July 2024, companies like Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, Alphabet, and Meta are valued at over $1 trillion.
Who Will Be the First Trillionaire?
Recent forecasts from Informa Connect Academy predict that a tech billionaire could become the world’s first trillionaire within the next few years. The report analyzed the wealth growth of the world’s 30 wealthiest individuals and created 30-year projections to determine who is likely to hit the trillion-dollar mark first.
Leading the pack is Elon Musk, with a projected net worth growth rate of 109.88% per year. Musk, who holds stakes in Tesla, SpaceX, and X Corp (formerly Twitter), is expected to reach trillionaire status by 2027.
Gautam Adani and Jensen Huang Follow Musk
Following Musk, Indian business magnate Gautam Adani, founder of the Adani Group, is set to become a trillionaire by 2028. Jensen Huang, co-founder of the semiconductor company NVIDIA, is also expected to join the trillionaire club by 2028, with a projected annual wealth growth rate of 112%.
Out of the 28 billionaires predicted to achieve trillionaire status in the next 30 years, 11 (nearly 40%) are from the tech sector. Other notable names on the list include Zuckerberg, Bezos, Bill Gates, and ByteDance’s Zhang Yiming, the founder of TikTok’s parent company.
